China's economic growth could hit target, official says
China can reach its target for economic growth in 2024 of 5% with some extra effort, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) spokesperson Liu Aihua said at Monday's press conference.
Liu explained that the reports released throughout January and February show a basis for a "solid start," expected to continue to unravel with the help of the government's policies of support. She also warned about the risk that global instability and a domestic lack of demand may pose to growth.
Liu's conference came after China unveiled an annual increase of 5.5% in retail sales and a monthly one of 7% in industrial production.
