    Ever Given Update

    Special Dry Bulk Update

    • Lloyds List and other media outlets have reported that Suez Canal traffic will finally resume today. However, there has yet to be any confirmation that the front of the Ever Given has actually been "unstuck". The last several days have seen a few declarations of the Ever Green being refloated, but most importantly in pure layman's terms a vessel is either stuck or it is not -- and a canal is either open or it is closed. At this present time, what we can confirm is that the canal remains closed and over 100 dry bulk vessels are now waiting to transit the canal.
    • Also of note is that according to Bloomberg, an attempt to free the Ever Given began around 11:30AM local time today but failed and another attempt will be made at 3PM local time (which will be in 10 minutes from now). According to Bloomberg, once the vessel is fully refloated and navigation on the canal resumes, ships will pass through at a rate of around 100 a day to clear the backlog. We will be publishing additional updates as events unfold.

    možda i griješim,nebi bilo...

A SZIF i Pivci? Kojoj oni skupini pripadaju? Više ne znas tko koga. I jos nešto. Kompletni dar-mar

Fourth Consecutive Day of Large Chinese Purchase of US Corn

    • The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) today reported sales of 800,000 tons of corn to China (exporters are required to report to the USDA any export sales activity of 100,000 tons or more of any commodity). All of the corn will be shipped during the current grain season which ends on August 31st. Today marks the fourth consecutive day of 100,000 tons + sales to China. Prior to Tuesday's initial sale, no 100,000 ton+ US corn sales to China were reported since January 29th. As we have continued to stress in our work, US corn exports remain poised to surge during the next several months. This remains extremely encouraging for the dry bulk market

    • The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) today reported sales of 1.224 million tons of corn to China (exporters are required to report to the USDA any export sales activity of 100,000 tons or more of any commodity). All of the corn will be shipped during the current grain season which ends on August 31st. Today's sale comes on the heels of yesterday's 1.156 million ton sale, which marked the first 100,000 ton+ sale to China reported since January 29th. As we have continued to stress in our work, US corn exports remain poised to surge during the next several months.

Chinese Government Putting a Limit on Daily Mongolian Coal Truck Arrivals

    • After reports of a worker from Mongolia's Oyu Tolgoi copper mine being diagnosed with coronavirus, China's government today has begun putting a limit on the number of Mongolian coal trucks that will be allowed into China. Only 200 trucks carrying Mongolian coal will reportedly be allowed into China each day (and no trucks carrying Mongolian copper will be allowed). This decree is valid until further notice.
    • We are unable to confirm how many Mongolian coal trucks previously were crossing into China in recent days, but of note is that as recently as in early September over 2,000 Mongolian coal trucks were crossing each day. Overall, the new 200 truck limitation is an important development and one that we will be continuing to monitor closely. Mongolia primarily supplies coking coal to China, and if the restrictions remain in effect for several days then China will eventually need to import more coking coal from other exporters.
    • Also of note is new daily coronavirus cases, while still relatively low, set a record in Mongolia on March 13th. 169 new cases were reported that day, which has dwarfed the average of approximately 40 new daily cases seen in February. In China (which officially has experienced only the 86th largest number of coronavirus cases globally), new daily cases remain very low. Yesterday, for example, saw only 5 new coronavirus cases reported. China's government wants new cases to remain low -- and for now, imports of Mongolian coal will be coming under coronavirus-virus related pressure

Large Chinese Purchase of US Corn

    • The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) today reported sales of 1.156 million tons of corn to China (exporters are required to report to the USDA any export sales activity of 100,000 tons or more of any commodity). All of the corn will be shipped during the current grain season which ends on August 31st.
    • While smaller sales to China have continued in recent weeks, this marks the first 100,000 ton+ sale to China reported since January 29th. Going forward, US corn exports remain poised to surge during the next several months. As we highlighted in this week's Weekly Dry Bulk Report, total outstanding US corn sales for the current 2020/21 season ended last week at 31.8 million tons. In comparison, a year ago corn sales for the upcoming season at the time stood at 12.9 million tons. Just based on these two figures alone, US corn sales from now through the end of August have been poised to rise year-on-year by approximately 18.9 million tons. Taking into account the new 1.156 sale to China, this now puts the expected year-on-year corn export surge through the end of August at over 20 million tons.

Further Decline in China's Coastal Power Plant Coal Stockpiles

    • The most recent data as of March 14th shows that coal stockpiles at China's six major coastal power plants have fallen to approximately 14.8 million tons. This marks the second straight week of decline and is down by 700,000 tons (-5%) from the start of this month. Prior to these last two weeks, stockpiles had not declined since mid-January. On a year-on-year basis, stockpiles are down by approximately 4.7 million tons (-24%). The stockpiles are now able to meet only 20 days of demand, which marks a level not seen since late January.
