Last time Panamax rates hit current level was in September 2010.
At that time a 15yr old pmx was valued at $25m vs $12m now.....

Another Large Chinese Purchase of US Corn

    • The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) today reported sales of 1.224 million tons of corn to China (exporters are required to report to the USDA any export sales activity of 100,000 tons or more of any commodity). All of the corn will be shipped during the current grain season which ends on August 31st. Today's sale comes on the heels of yesterday's 1.156 million ton sale, which marked the first 100,000 ton+ sale to China reported since January 29th. As we have continued to stress in our work, US corn exports remain poised to surge during the next several months.

There could be more demand for corn imports as China faces a threat from armyworm, which attack corn among other crops.

The April Panamax futures have put in another fine performance today on the back of an equally stellar performance for the
index. Both are up nearly USD 900 on the day as the we creep ever closer to the USD 26,875 high; at this rate we should be
there by Monday! The one-hour futures are showing a negative divergence now, suggesting we need to see price and momentum push on, otherwise the futures might drop back into a corrective phase first. Wave analysis is bullish

A 10-year-old Japan-built supramax is up 40% since the start of the year, now priced at about $14m, while a similarly-aged kamsarmax is at $21m from $15m just six weeks ago. https://lloydslist.maritimeintelligence.informa.com/LL1136137/Hot-…econdhand-ships

Volatility in freight should increase – In 2021, we expect demand growth for dry bulk shipping to total almost 3x
the growth in net new supply, and although utilization is still well below the record high levels of the 2000s,
directionally, utilization is heading to new multi-year highs that have the potential to push shipping rates much
higher. We anticipate volatility to increase this year, and although such a turbulent environment might seem scary
at times, it is a characteristic for shipping that was in hibernation for most of the past decade but is about to wake
up and make potential trading returns very attractive subject to prudent risk management, while the lack of
investment vehicles for investors will at times exaggerate such returns, as it happened in past cycles....... https://static1.squarespace.com/static/5a4d1d2…2021+Report.pdf
